Surgery with a Money-Back Guarantee

Last night I was flying home from a speaking engagement in Orlando, when I ran across an ad in US Airways Magazine for St. Luke's Hospital promoting da Vinci Robotic Prostate Surgery. Here's the hook, the ad was promoting St. Luke's money-back guarantee should the patient "develop specified complications relating to the robotic prostatectomy within 30 days of surgery." If that happens, they are not billed for services provided by St. Luke's.

Here's the ad for your review… Continue

Demystifying Social Media in Healthcare Marketing

Yesterday I spoke to a group of about 40 healthcare marketers from Adventist Health System who were attending their annual Marcom Summit. We covered some really good ground in the 90-minute presentation. The goal of the talk was to demystify social media for the group and make it relevant to healthcare… Continue

A Shout Out to Marketers at Adventist Health System

This morning I want to give a quick shout out to the folks at Adventist Health System, based in Orlando, Florida. I'll be heading their way later today and will join them tomorrow for a gathering of their marketing folks from across the US. We're going to talk about the growing role of social media in healthcare. I'm looking forward to it.

If you're not familiar with Adventist Health System (www.ahss.org), they have 37 hospitals in ten states and… Continue

2009 SHSMD Conference - Sept 30 - Oct 3, 2009

This year's SHSMD Conference, taking place in Orlando, September 30 - October 3, 2009, promises to be a great event. If you only travel to one healthcare marketing conference throughout the year, this is one to consider. SHSMD is the Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development (www.shsmd.org). Senior health Care and general lighting issues

Excerpt from GENERAL LIGHTING

Seniors eyesight gets poorer as they age and they require more light to see well. Use high-wattage bulbs in light fixtures around the home, especially where they read. 3-way bulbs are great.

Remember from the Bathroom section that the rocker-type wall switches are the easiest for seniors to use. Second are the old-fashioned toggle switches.

NIGHT LITES

This is mandatory! Many elders fall while attempting to… Continue

Elderly Home Care and The Bathroom set up

THE BATHROOM

Without having to retrofit a bath with specially-designed tubs and lifts for seniors that have difficulty moving, there are some basic mandatory safety issues that must be addressed. Innovative and attractive products are now on the market.

THE TOILET

Toilet height is important. Your elder’s leg strength may become compromised at some point. Even a slight muscle strain can prevent them from putting pressure on a leg. This makes it… Continue

Housing Options for Seniors

Many people are brought into the caregiving role gradually. Some of you are just realizing that you will some day be taking care of an elder and are preparing in advance. For those of you that are in crisis mode and need to get organized fast, I'm going to assume that you have just realized that you must immediately set up the daily care for someone else. The first thing you need to decide is where they are going to live. Wherever that ends up being, a safety assessment must be made of their… Continue

Marketing Your Marketing

Tomorrow morning I am leading a Webinar for the New England Society for Healthcare Communications (NESHCo) titled "Marketing Your Marketing." It is based on a presentation I delivered at last year's SHSMD conference. The idea is that marketing, for a number of reasons, has typically been undervalued in the healthcare industry. Truth be told, many individuals within healthcare organizations, including those occupying the… Continue

Documentary Film and Healthcare

This week I've taken a few days away from blogging about healthcare marketing. Instead, I've been working on a labor of love. For the last several months, my company has been doing pro bono work for the 2009 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. One of our company's values is to give back to our community and to support the arts. The Full Frame Festival is taking place right now in historic downtown… Continue
