Dan - Happy Thanksgiving to you, Scotti & Meg. I have much to be thankful as well and among my blessing is our friendship. Enjoy your time with your family.

What am I thankful for this Thanksgiving? Believe it or not, it is a fairly long list.
I'm thankful for my family, Scotti and Meg - the two women who put up with my travel, cranky moods and general impatience. I try to make them the priority but don't always succeed. I'm also thankful for the inexpensive roses at my local Kroger store - a resource I've relied upon heavily.
I'm thankful that my sister Kerry's ovarian cancer is now in remission after only a year… Continue

Today I was visiting Catalent
Pharma Solution's site in Middleton, Wisconsin. This is the heart of their biotechnology work. This group, known in a past life as Gala Biotechnology, is absolutely amazing. A colleague and I spent the day meeting with their leadership, and touring the facility.
What do they do in Middleton? You've no doubt read about the explosion in genomics over the last few years. Well, with the identification of thousands of new… Continue

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love my work. In this case, I'm talking about my work as a marketer in the life sciences. This week I've been on the road as part of a brand consulting engagement for Catalent Pharma Solutions. Earlier in the week one of my colleagues and I were working in San Diego and yesterday we traveled to Middleton, Wisconsin - a suburb of Madison. Dramatic difference in landscape and weather. But one thing is constant, we are learning as fast as we can -… Continue

What comes to mind when you think of Vermont? Cows? Beautiful fall foliage? Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream? Skiing? For me, Vermont has always been about a way of life - more gentle and a little safer than most of us experience. To be fair, I spent a good part of my childhood in Vermont where my dad ran Vermont Educational Television from 1971-1979. And I still have family in Vermont so I get to visit from time to time.
It came as no surprise yesterday when I read an AP story by Mike… Continue

Wherever you live, there is most likely a regional healthcare marketing society - probably an affiliate of the Society of Healthcare Strategy & Market Development (SHSMD
). I belong to a few of the regional societies and do my best to make it to their annual educational conferences. I attended the New England conference a few weeks ago and had the opportunity to give the keynote address. This week I've been in Charleston, SC, attending the annual conference… Continue

My name is Lisa Marie and I am a headhunter that is new to HealthCare recruiting. I wanted to reach out to others in this community not to ask for business but to borrow your expertise. You see, I am finding that there really is not a large demand for direct placement within this industry. I am making the transition from Pharmaceutical recruiting to HealthCare and trying to find my niche. My expertise has always been direct hire and I am amazed at the amount of talented in… Continue

Healthcare marketing professionals, this information should come as no surprise to you. In a study just released, the Marketing Executives Networking Group
(MENG) revealed that most marketing executives are still climbing the learning curve when it comes to adopting social media. Quoting from the MENG press release
, "The premier organization of executive-level marketing professionals conducted the… Continue

An important part of providing a healthy environment for employees and patients is offering and encouraging healthy nutrition options within the hospital. It only makes sense that hospitals would be leaders in promoting healthy nutrition by offering staff and visitors healthful food options. We know that lifetime obesity-related healthcare costs increase as body mass index increases. This places a financial burden on individuals, families and employers. If you would like to download a fact… Continue

With the Fall 2008 CHPRMS conference rapidly approaching (it starts Wednesday) I thought I would lighten up my healthcare marketing blog with a post about great restaurants in Charleston!
Hopefully this will come in handy later this week as many of us descend upon Charleston.
Word of Mouth:
I've had several friends recommend Hominy Grill
, Jestine's Kitchen, and Virginia's on King.

A recent article distribute by Reuters (London) references a new study by Demos that claims that employee social networking activity may very well help businesses. "The report by Demos said encouraging employees to use networking technologies to build relationships and closer links with colleagues and customers could help businesses rather than damage them." (Source: Reuters, Social networking sites "good for businesses", October 29, 2008) You can download a free PDF of the report from Demos by… Continue

Here's a great case for maniacal attention to hand hygiene compliance in healthcare environments. An article
in U.S. News & World Report
reports that women's hands are home to a greater variety of germs than men's hands. According to the article, "both genders house vastly more bacteria on their palms than previously suspected, according to a… Continue

Lexie Gross of MedTouch
, a fellow member of the Healthcare Marketing Online Community
, brought this Newsweek
article to my attention. The article
by Barrett Sheridan is titled "Open Wide" and was published on October 16, 2008.
The article discusses the healthcare industry's slow adoption of Web 2.0 tactics like social networking. It includes… Continue

One of my goals with this bog is to point out quality resources for healthcare marketers. One resource that I have recently started following is Keith Jennings' blog - Marketing Rounds: A Blog for Brand-Conscious Healthcare Professionals. From what I can tell, Keith began his blog in March 2008 and has been posting regularly. The posts are topical and interesting - ideal for the healthcare marketer. Keith does a great job of directing those reading his blog to additional… Continue

Every so often I'll write a post about Lexington Medical Center
(LMC) in West Columbia, South Carolina. LMC is one of my firm's clients, so I'm visiting them regularly and get to experience all of the things they are doing right. It is an amazing organization.
On Friday (Halloween), one of my colleagues and I visited LMC for a day of strategic marketing. Purely by coincidence, Friday also happened to be the day of LMC's Fall Picnic and Lexy Awards.… Continue
